Back to the HMS Exeter crew list

Raymond Horace Fitchett

Able Seaman
D/JX 237882

Raymond Horace Fitchett was an uncle of mine. He survived the sinking of HMS Exeter at the Battle of the Java Sea and was captured by the Japanese. I believe he was working in a coal mine near Nagasaki when the 'A' bomb was dropped. He survived the war, was married in England, emigrated to Calgary Canada, had three children there and died in 1998.
