Back to the HMS Exeter crew list

Samuel Rainey

Stoker First Class

Samuel Rainey is believed to have died from Cerebral Malaria in May 1943, in Poemaloe (East Celebes - Part of the Spice Islands)

Its really nice to find my grandfathers name on your crew members list for HMS Exeter, unfortunately he died in a POW camp 1942 I believe. Apart from that I don't really know a lot about him.

Except he was born in Bridgewater Somerset and joined the navy at 14 but left shortly before the outbreak of the second world war, when he re-enlisted. He had 5 daughters and one son and was a chief stoker first class on Exeter I believe.

I would be really grateful for any information about my grandfather.

Please contact Andy (webmaster) with any information.
